Patricia R's Proportion Post

Part 1

Ratios- comparison of two quantities.
Example:
                          stars:circles
                                3:4

                           circles:stars
                                  4:3

Rate- compares two quantities measured in different units.
Example - 1.69 per 100g or 1.69/100g   is a rate for purchasing bulk food
 - 72 beats/min is a "heart rate"

Example : Brandon runs 150 meters in 25 seconds.

Proportion- is two equivalents -fractions
                                                   -ratios
                                                   -rates

Part 2

1. 5 hours to travel 360 kilometres is about 72 km/h.

2. Emma saves 28 cents of every dollar that she earns. Emma earned $75 last week. How much money did Emma save last week?
       Emma saved $21.00/$75.00

1) Does this seem fair?
No, but it's still wrong to do it.
2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does this seem fair?
Again, it is still not fair, but at the same time it is still bad to do stuff like that. The homeless man doesn't need to stay in jail for that long, the CEO guy has to.
3) Why have you made this choice?
I have made this choice because..... It is really not fair! (for the homeless man). The homeless man did not need to stay in jail for 15 years for stealing $100 in the bank. It's really unfair having to see a homeless man be in jail for 15 years for stealing $100 (which is still bad), and seeing a CEO who stole 3 billion dollars and staying in jail for only 40 months (3 years and 4 months). The homeless man clearly had a good reason to tell the teller why he was stealing, then the next day he volunteered/confessed himself to the police, he even said that he wasn't raised the way to steal.
4) What would you have done if you were the judge?
If I was the judge... I wouldn't let the man stay in jail for 15 years, I would only sentence him for 3 or 4 months, depends how it goes. As for the CEO, he should be sentence for about 5-6 years, but with a fine of 60,000 or more. They can't be sentenced of being convicted with stealing for 10 years of more with 99 years of life.

Part 6
1) How long and how tall is the traffic box?
2) How many peaches would you think would be in that traffic box?

Answers:

1) and 2) First of all, you have to measure the length and width of the traffic box. I measured this with my ruler, so I took my ruler and measured the length and width of it. So for the length I got 9 cm, and for the width I got 7 cm. So I multiplied them both, and I got 63. So approximately 63 peaches would fit in the traffic box.
