Oliver's Integer Scribepost.

Column 1

Q. (-6) + (-9) = (-15)

I got this answer by looking at it like it is normal addition.
(6+9=15) after you have done that you have to remember to look back on whether it is negative or positive, in this case it is negative. So you got to put the negative symbol.

3 ways to model

O= positive
o= negative

1. first, the have and owe method.
 (-6) + (-9) = (-15)
owe 6  and owe 9
To determine whether you owe something or have something is by looking at the number you have. If there is a take away symbol in front that means you owe.If there is nothing or a Plus symbol in front that means you have.
2. Second is the integer chips/tiles, or timbits and doughnut holes.
 (-6) + (-9) = (-15)
oooooo (-6)
ooooooooo (-9)
First you have to draw what you start off with, which in this case is (-6) then I added (-9).
3. The number Line.
 (-6) + (-9) = (-15)

_(-15)___________(-6)_____0
                                   <----------
      <---------------------
             + (-9)
The thing with a number line is that always remember to start at zero. The next thing you do is to create an arrow going toward your first number. Then when you are adding to that number you have to create another arrow, this time you have label the arrow with what you are adding.

Q. (+7)+(+4)=(+11)
i figured this out really easy because thi question is just normal addition.

1. (+7)+(+4)=(+11)
   have 7  and  have 4
This question is really simple, it is just normal addition.
7+4=11 is the same as (+7)+(+4)=(+11), it just looks more complicated because of all the extra stuff surrounding it.
2.
O= positive
o= negative
(+7)+(+4)=(+11)
OOOOOOO
OOOO
All you have to do is draw 7 positive O and underneath you draw 4 more because that is how much you are adding.
3.
0_______________+7________+11
 ------------------------>
                                  ---------------->
                                           + (+4)
Always remember to start at zero. Then put your first arrow on the starting number. then create your next arrow and label with how many you are adding.
Q.(-1)+(+4)=(+3)
To answer this question, I looked at it as i it was a subtraction question. (+4) - 1 = 3.
1.(-1)+(+4)=(+3)
    owe 1 and have 4
If you have more "haves" then "owes", and that means you answer will be positive.
2.(-1)+(+4)=(+3)

O= positive
o= negative

o
/
OOOO
In this question there is a zero pair. a zero pair cancels out each other value.
so the one negative cancels out with one of the four positives which leaves 3 positive left.
3.(-1)+(+4)=(+3)

(-1)__0_____(+3)
 < -------
   ------------------>
       + (+4)
Always remember to start at zero. Your first arrow goes to your starting number. your next arrow goes to your final answer. Remember that on your second arrow you have to label it with how much you are adding.

Textbook 228-229
 10. Divide
a.) 1 1/12 divided by 2 1/2

You need to turn the mixed numbers into an improper fraction.1 and 1/2 becomes13/12 and 2 and 1/2 becomes 5/2. Since you have to do the reciprocal on the denominator, you multiply 13/12 by 2/5 on the top (numerator). Then simplify your answer if needed.

b.) 8/11 divided by 4/5

Do the reciprocal on the denominator then after you do that step, you put the reciprocal on the denominator and multiply those. Simplify if it is needed, in this case, I simplified it by 4.

c.) 1 3/8 divided by 2 3/4

Do the reciprocal on the denominator then after you do that step, you put the reciprocal on the denominator and multiply  those.

11. In a comedy review, each performer has 1/4 h slot.  How many performers are there in 2 h slot? There will be 8 performers in 2h slot

*Since 2 is a whole number, make it into a fraction by using 1 as a denominator. So it becomes 2 over

12. It takes 2 1/2 scoops of flour to make 1 cake.  How many cakes do 15 scoops of flour make? 15 scoops of flour make 6 cakes

My We Day Experience

My Overall Impression about the We Day event was that it was inspirational and amazing. I thought it was amazing because it was very organized, they spoke in such a moving way, and their performances were superb!

The speakers who impacted me were Spencer West, Molly Burke and of course, Marc and Craig Kielburger. Spencer West is a man who lost his legs at the age of 5. He is an inspirational and a charismatic speaker who talks about the struggles he overcame after losing his legs, getting bullied, and how we never lost hope. He told us a story of how people underestimated him and were telling him that he was never going to make it to the top of the mountain, but he proved them wrong.
 He climbed the mountain with his 2 friends using only both his arms and hands and reached the very top. He said he felt really exhausted and just wanted to give up, but he didn't. That made an impact on me because I felt inspired on how he never gave up. It made me realize that I should always be thankful of what I have now before it's all gone. The 2nd person that impacted me was Molly Burke. Molly Burke is a speaker was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. Retinitis Pigmentosa is a retinal disease that causes loss of vision. She was only 4 years old when she got diagnosed with this disease. She began public speaking at the age of 5 and has inspired thousands of people since then. She talked about how she got bullied by the "popular girls" from her old school at the age of 14. She made an impact on me because even though she's blind, she's still cheerful and always positive. Marc and Craig Keilburger are brothers and they started We Day. They also started the organization "Free the Children." They impacted me because they made me realize that a lot of people around the world are wanting for your attention and help, and that you can make a change. They inspired me to become a better person. They also taught me that you should fight for what you believe in if you think it's right.

 I also liked the music they had there. Shawn Desman,Victoria Duffield, Lights, Justin Nozuka, All Star Weekend, One Drop, and a few other people performed on stage and it was just so amazing! I really enjoyed it even though I didn't know all of them. Out of all of them, I enjoyed Shawn Desman's performance the most. He sang "Nobody Does It Like You" and I heard a lot of girls scream their hearts out.

 I also liked One Drop's performance. While this lady was performing, this cool necklace they put in everyone's We Day bag started lighting up. It looked really cool in the dark and I was amused.

My first correction I have to make is the first question, I mistook the question for a division question and did division instead of multiplication.  I did the same thing for question 4.

This is what i should have done...

Patricia B's Fraction Scribepost

Textbook Page 228, Chapter 6.5  #'s 11, 12, and 13.

When you're dividing fractions, first thing you do is you make the whole number a fraction. The second thing you do is you write down what you have and the group you're dividing the first fraction into and put a fraction line in between them. The third thing you do is you find the reciprocal of the denominator which in this case is 4/1 and multiply 1/4 by 4/1. You do to the top what you do to the bottom. I multiplied 15/1 by 2/5 and the answer I got is 8 wholes. You then simplify the answer if you need to. There are 8 performers in a 2 hour show.
