Brenda and her sister are selling cookies. Brenda and her sister share the money they get after selling the cookies. Each cookie costs $2.00. For every cookie sold, Brenda's sister takes her share of $1.00.

b) What does n and p represent in your situation?

b) What's the difference in value for consecutive x-values and consecutive a-values?
The difference in the x values is 1. It's 1 because it starts from zero and goes 1,2,3,4 etc. To get from 0 to 1, you have to add 1.
The difference in the a values is 4. It's 4 because it starts from zero and goes to 4 and goes 8,12,16 etc. To get from 0 to 4 you have to add 4.

c) In words, describe the relationship between x and a.
The relationship between x and a is that you multiply by 4. You multiply by 4 because you have to multiply x by 4 to get a. Ex; x= 2, a=8You have to multiply 2 by 4 to get 8.

d) What is an expression for a in terms of x?
 An expression for a in terms of x is 4x

Owe 8 and have 5

3 - (-10)=
Have 3 remove negative 10
The equivalent statement would be: 3 + 10
The first integer stays the same but you have to remove the second integer. Once you removed the second integer (negative 10) and replaced it with the opposite ( Positive 10) you add it with the first integer.

9 + (-6)=
Have 9 and owe 6
You have to use a zero pair. 

(-3) - 3=
Owe 3 remove positive 3

10 - (-5)=
First you make the equivalent statement.
Next replace the second integer (negative 5) with the opposite (+5). 
After, add the second integer with the first integer. 

 

Cheryl's Pay It Forward

Part 1

What is "Pay it Forward"
Pay it forward is about about helping other people. It's about being kind to people and not wanting anything in return. Once you start  helping people, you want to influence them into doing nice things for other people too. It's about passing on the message of "random acts of kindness". You don't just have to pass on the message with people you do know, but you can even pass it on to people you don't know.

Part 2

What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?

I did Pay it Forward with my friends Patricia and Jasmine. Our Pay it Forward act of kindness was to give goodie bags to the children at the "Children's Hospital". 

Why did you choose this activity?
 
We chose to give goodie bags to the children at the hospital because the children at the hospital were sick. Many of the children there were younger than us. We thought it would be nice to give them gifts and try to put smiles on their faces. 

Who did you help?

We helped the kids at the Children's Hospital

What did you do? 
 
We bought them things that they could play with while they're at the hospital.

When did you do your act of kindness?

 We did our act of kindness on November 29, 2012

How did your act of kindness go?

Our act of kindness went well.

What Happened?
 
When we got to the hospital we got to talk to a lady that worked there. We told her why we were there and that we wanted to give the children at the hospital goodie bags. She was happy to hear that we wanted to give goodie bags to the children. Unfortunately, we couldn't personally give the goodie bags to the kids. Instead she said that she'll give it to them.

How did you feel?

I felt good that we got to do something nice for the kids at the hospital, but I felt kind of sad when we couldn't give them their gifts in person.

How did the person or people react?

The lady who worked there thought it was nice that we wanted to give things to the kids at the hospital.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?

Yes we did ask the lady that we talked to, to Pay it Forward.
 
How did they react to your request?

She already knew what Pay it Forward was about, but she still thought the idea of helping others was great.

Part 4

Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?

The idea of Pay it Forward is important because its sending on the message of helping people out. From one person it passes on to another and it goes on and on. It's also important because it doesn't matter who you are to do Pay it Forward. You can be a man, a woman, or a child. All that matters is that you help others.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?
 We made a difference in a child's life by giving them goodie bags with different things inside them that would make them happy and smile.

#1.            3 1/6 divided by 1 2/3

 First you have to put it as a question. 
How many groups of 1  2/3 go into 3  1/6 ?

 When you're done that you have to estimate if your answer will be less than 1 or greater than 1

My estimate was that the answer will be greater than 1.

Next, you write it as a fraction.

You should change the mixed fractions into improper. 

 








When you finished writing it into a fraction, you have to make the denominator reciprocal. Once you've made the denominator reciprocal you have to make the numerator reciprocal too. After that you have to multiply the numbers at the numerator and at the denominator.

 Change 19/10 into a mixed fraction and you should get 1  9/10


# 2.        2/9 divided by 5/6

How many groups of 5/6 go into 2/9 ?

My estimate: Less than 1
 

Write it as a fraction

 Make them reciprocal, and then multiply them.

 How many groups of 1/5 go into 1/10?

  My estimate: Greater than 1

 Make the fractions reciprocal and then multiply.
